Who can apply for hardship relief?

All students at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences can apply for hardship assistance.

What does applying for hardship relief mean?

If a hardship application is successful, most of the semester fees for the current semester will be refunded.

The following documents are required to apply for a loan:

    • Completed application form
    • Student ID card and certificate of enrolment
    • Identity card or passport
    • Bank statements for the last three months from all accounts
    • Complete details of income and expenditure:
      • earnings from employment
      • rental expenses
      • expenses for ancillary costs
    • Information about other assets (cars, etc.)
    • vehicle registration document, if applicable
    • Bank statements of spouse/registered civil partner, if applicable
    • BAföG rejection letter, if applicable
    • Rejection notice for housing benefit, if applicable
    • Rejection notice for housing benefit, if applicable
    • employment contract, if applicable
    • Information on outstanding payment obligations

 

For foreign students, additionally:

    • Residence permit (visa)
    • work permit

What are the steps in the application process?

The first step in the application process is to complete the application form, which must be filled out and sent by email with the necessary documents to hopo@asta.h-brs.de return. If we have no further questions or require additional documentation, the application will be submitted to the Härtefallausschuss (Hardship Committee), which will then discuss the application at its next meeting.

If the application is accepted, the repayment of the agreed portions of the semester fees can be initiated.

The documents must be sent in full to spätestens 10 Tage vor der Sitzung vollständig an hopo@asta.h-brs.de at least 10 days before the meeting.
