What is a “free table”?

With our ‘free table’ programme, we offer students who are experiencing financial hardship the opportunity to eat for free in the cafeterias run by the Bonn Student Union.

The free meal cards are always valid for one semester (i.e. from 1 September to 28 February or from 1 March to 31 August). After that, you must reapply.

What does the free table include?

Recipients of free meals can receive the following meals per day/per person from Monday to Friday (except on public holidays):

  1. A breakfast consisting of a maximum of two sandwiches from the selection on offer and a hot drink.
  2. A lunch consisting of one main component from the menu, a maximum of three side components from the menu and a beverage, or alternatively, a meal from the food truck plus a beverage.
  3. In the afternoon, enjoy a savoury or sweet snack from the cafeteria, along with a drink.

Wer ist berechtigt, den Freitisch zu erhalten?

Den Freitisch kannst du bekommen, wenn du an der Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg studierst und kein BAföG beziehst.

You are eligible to receive the benefit if, after deducting your rent obligation of up to EUR 450 and your health insurance costs of up to EUR 120, you have less than 40% of the maximum BAföG rate for your living expenses left over in the previous month and the month in which you submit your application.

How do I apply for the free table?

To obtain the free meal, you must submit your current valid student ID card, your current valid identity card and your bank statements for the current month and the previous month.
