With our ‘free table’ programme, we offer students who are experiencing financial hardship the opportunity to eat for free in the cafeterias run by the Bonn Student Union.
The free meal cards are always valid for one semester (i.e. from 1 September to 28 February or from 1 March to 31 August). After that, you must reapply.
Important: Since the summer semester 2026, the use of the free meal entitlement is limited to a maximum of three semesters; these do not have to be consecutive.
Recipients of free meals are entitled to receive the following meals per person, per day, from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays):
Beverages and scan items (such as snack bars, ice cream, etc.) are excluded from the free meal entitlement.
You are eligible to receive free meals if you are studying at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and do not receive BAföG.
Eligible to receive the benefit is any applicant who, after deduction of rent obligations up to the amount of the respective housing allowance according to BAföG plus EUR 90 as compensation for the above-average rent burden in the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg university region, as well as costs for health and long-term care insurance up to the amount of the respective health and long-term care insurance subsidy according to BAföG plus EUR 20 to account for additional individual statutory health insurance contributions, has less than 40% of the maximum BAföG rate remaining per month for covering living expenses in the month prior to the application (recipient). If the applicant’s assets exceed the exemption limit according to BAföG, the application may be rejected. There is no legal entitlement to receive free meals.
To apply for free meals, you must submit your currently valid student ID, enrollment certificate, currently valid identity card, and your bank statements for the current month and the previous month by email.
